China and the Shift

Click here to read the Shift Network blog on the Shift and China. It's great to see the interest in China on alternative ways of envisioning the future. While I do not subscribe to the full set of beliefs of the Shift Network, a spinoff of the Thrive phenomenon, I do respect their vision and apparently so do influential parties in China. I have long experience with China dating back more than 40 years. I can attest to the fact that many Chinese are truly visionary in their outlook. For all its vicissitudes the Chinese Revolution has been all about new visions for China's development as a modern society. China has been an innovator in the use of green energy, ecocities, and deliberative and consultative democracy. I look forward to China's continued progressive development as it confronts the many contradictions of industrialization and urbanization. The task they have before them is enormous but they are in position to lead the way.
